Looking to get some hands-on practice with moving face-to-face courses to the online environment? Join us for a fully online crash course in the practical pedagogy of eLearning for beginners as we use a range of online learning activities to introduce core principles and best practices for online learning. Participants will learn by doing as they transform a face-to-face course into a robust and pedagogically informed online learning environment in Moodle. This course is actively facilitated by a Teaching Commons instructor, and participants will be able to ask questions and access further support and resources by email, in online office hours, or through the course Moodle at any point.

By the end of this course, participants will have:

  1. Begun the redesign of an existing face-to-face course for the online environment
  2. Explored a range of online learning activities from the student and instructor perspectives
  3. Applied pedagogical best practices to the design of online learning
  4. Practiced building online learning environments using Moodle

Note: Throughout this course, participants can work individually or as a teaching team to transfer an existing course (ideally one of their own upcoming courses) to the online environment. If you are working with a teaching team, please indicate this when registering. Note that all members of the teaching team must register for this course.

Time Commitment:

This course is open to all course directors at York and no previous experience with online assignment design is required. Participants can expect to spend a total of approximately 4-8 hours engaging with course content and activities. The course is designed asynchronously, meaning that while there are weekly deadlines, participants can complete each week’s tasks at any time that is convenient to them.
