POSTPONED: Inclusive Pedagogy: Addressing Social Inequality in Your Classroom

March 12, 2018 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
HNES 140
Teaching Commons

In today’s diverse classroom environment, TAs require a number of key concepts such as inclusion and exclusion, diversity, equality, cultural competence, multi-culturalism, integration and participation, to help develop and maintain inclusive practices.

This workshop provides various ways and strategies to achieve inclusiveness through practices of equal opportunities, supportive contacts and good relationships between different groups. Activities will include a brainstorming session that considers ways of connecting and engaging with a variety of students as well as provide suggestions on how to be prepared for “spark moments” or issues that arise when controversial material is discussed. Participants at the end of the workshop will be presented with different scenarios of oppressive classroom practices and asked to respond to them using the acquired skills from the workshop.

This workshop will count towards the Teaching Commons ‘Record of Completion’ certificate

Facilitated by Susan Agada, Senior Teaching Assistant in Environmental Studies
