eLearning Courses

Welcome to the Teaching Commons courses for those who would like to explore and develop blended and online learning in their teaching. We are currently offering two courses, a one-day eLearning "boot camp' and the two-day+ blended 'eLearning @York course'. These two courses are offered several times per year.  We can also offer specially scheduled or adapted workshops for groups of 6 or more. See below for dates.

The philosophy of these courses is based on experiential learning. Participants combine learning about pedagogic theory with practical interventions and reflective hands-on practice.

eLearning ‘boot camp’

This one day intensive course is designed to provide you with ‘basic training’ for getting started with eLearning. The focus will be on developing your course and the most effective approaches to achieving your learning and teaching goals. However, there will be plenty of hands-on work and the opportunity to try out various eLearning tools, including some clever ones in Moodle you may not know exist! Contributions from the Learning Technology Service, Library and others will be included. Faculty or staff who need to plan or build elearning elements or courses will find this useful. No prior experience required!

All boot camps are from 10AM - 3PM, locations listed.

eLearning@York Course

On this course you will gain the tools needed to adapt or develop a blended or fully online course. No experience of developing eLearning is required. This is a blended course with 2 face-to-face sessions and online modules. Participants will engage in a range of learning activities, engaging in group work, contributing to online and in person discussions, and developing various components of their eLearning project online. NB Participants should commit to be actively engaged in the course activities. It is anticipated that participants will spend on average 1-2 hours per week to complete the course. To register:

In Development for 2015: eLearning Masterclass

Aimed at those who have experience of developing elearning and would like to focus on a particular aspect or create more sophisticated activities or media, increase student engagement, etc. Included will be advice on evaluating your online course, and publishing on elearning.
