Supporting Teaching At York (STAY) Symposium 2016

Join us on Friday May 6th, 2016 in the Life Sciences Building, LSB 103, for the Fourth Annual Supporting Teaching At York (STAY) Symposium, featuring sessions prepared by our current 2015-2016 Senior Teaching Assistants (STAs) at York.  Sessions include a broad range of topics central to the role of a Teaching Assistant.

This free event is for all graduate students.  Whether this is your first experience at STAY or you are returning for another year, our new line-up of presentations promises to deliver invaluable and transferable information across all disciplines and all levels of TA experience.  So, come and STAY  for what promises to be an inspiring and energizing day to engage with your peers. Learn how your participation can earn you a ‘Record of Completion’ Certificate.

Schedule at a Glance

Registration: 9:00am – 9:30 am

The Symposium will run from 9:30am – 3:30pm.  Lunch will be provided.

Opening Plenary:

Celia Popovic

“What is Educational Development and How Can It Benefit Me?”

This panel discussion will be led by the Director of the Teaching Commons, Dr. Celia Popovic and will involve discussions with experienced graduate student teaching assistants, Theresa Beesley (Kinesiology), Pat Breton (Gender, Feminist & Women’s Studies), Brian Nairn (Kinesiology), Raj Singh (Music) and Andrea Valente (Humanities)

Closing Plenary:


“Putting your Teaching Experience to Work”

This closing plenary will be led by Dr. Tamara Kelly, a faculty member in the Department of Biology and winner of multiple teaching awards, including PUWTA and OCUFA Teaching Award.
